Your ability to hire a great sales recruiter will be important when working through the sales recruitment process. The sales recruiter will be screening applicants against hiring requirements and driving interest in your sales role. Here are a few things to look for in a contingency sales recruiter.

  1. Make sure your sales recruiter understands who they are looking for. If your sales recruiter doesn’t take the time to gather the necessary information, they may waste a lot of time sending candidates that are not suitable for your opening.

  2. Your contingency recruiter should specialize in the sales function exclusively. Recruiting sales professionals isn’t for the faint of heart and is unlike recruiting for any other function. Non sales recruiters will tell you they love recruiting salespeople because they are ‘so fun and easy to talk to,’ but experienced sales recruiters know the level of work that must be conducted to vet the performers from the C-players.

  3. Most important, your recruiter should have some expertise in your industry. If your sales recruiter is chasing financial services salespeople one day and pharmaceutical reps the next, you may have a hard time getting the level of talent you need for your technical sales roles. If your recruiter doesn’t have a sales specialty, they may contribute little to sales recruitment success.

  4. It is critical that you select a recruiter who is enthusiastic about filling your open sales position. They will have to become experts at pitching your company and the role to prospective applicants.
