Pre-Hiring Check List: 13 Points for Review

Over the years, we have compiled a "13-point pre-hiring checklist," which our clients use to gain clarity before starting the interview process. We encourage you to work through this checklist prior to starting your next sales or sales leadership search.

  5. What obstacles will this person need to overcome? What skills will they need to be successful? What challenges will they face in the first year?

  6. What tangible achievements would you like to see in the first year?

  7. What are the current and future obstacles and/or challenges?

  8. What are the top three mandatory areas of expertise?

  9. Ethics are becoming a growing concern in America today. What are your organizations ethics? (The Golden Rule, Front Page of the Newspaper Test or Do it Today, Apologize Tomorrow?)

  10. With growth comes change, are you ready to pay the price and do things differently?

  11. Your expectations should be defined and unambiguous.

  12. Do you understand the importance of concrete feedback after an interview has taken place? Will you make it a priority to give timely interview feedback?
